Here are a few photos from live events we've either hosted or been a part of in some way. Come on out and join us at the next one, why don'tcha! Please remember that all photos are copyrighted to HounddogRadio.net unless otherwise noted. Any reproduction or other use without Hounddog Radio's consent is strictly prohibited. In other words, don't be swipin' our stuff without askin'. We'll probably even LET you use 'em if you ask and you give us proper credit on your site (we're shameless publicity hounds that way), so please do so. Thanks! |
Pickin' on the Porch with Bob McMillan and David Leinweber
February 15, 2009 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
We've started bringin' back our ol' Pickin' on the Porch series and we couldn't think of two finer gentlemen to help kick things off. David Leinweber and Robert McMillan came by on Sunday, February 15, 2009 to give us a few tunes and share some fun stories. Both of these guys are outstanding songwriters & bluegrass performers, and we were excited to have them here together. Both of these gentlemen have been with us before for our "songwriters in the round" events over the past year, and we're always happy to have 'em comin' by to visit us and play us some of his fine, original music. Robert is a fine songwriter and performer, and David has a wide variety of venues and musical styles, ranging from rock, to blues, to folk, to gospel. In fact, David has been featured as the "Flatpicking Professor" Dr. Leinweber at the Scottish Bluegrass Association Festival in Perth, Scotland and has also performed widely at regional acoustic music festivals all over the southern U.S. Pickin' on the Porch is an ongoing series of performance shows that we used to do in our early days and have been talkin' about bringing back for a while now. It's basically a live (and we mean LIVE) concert. There are no edits, overdubs, or "do-overs." The performers, not to mention the Hounddog staff, are...uh...workin' without a net, on the 'Net (we'll try to spare you anymore of our fine wit like that, but we can't make any promises). We feel that this is the way music should be: spontaneous, free-form, and exciting. |

Julie
Gribble and Sean Bennett on the Cybertoxic Lounge
June 25, 2008 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The wonderful Julie Gribble and drummer Sean Bennett came by the Doghouse on Wednesday, June 25, 2008 to play a few tunes for us and talk about all sorts of things, including Julie's music, life on the road, and other fun stuff. This young lady already has quite an impressive resume to go along with her music, and we were honored to have her and Sean stop by to hang out with us for an evening. We're currently spinning many of the tracks from Julie's 2006 album, Echoes in my Head, and we were delighted to hear a few of the new songs that she's been putting together. Julie's credits include the Lifetime movie “Dive at Clauson’s Pier,” popular Nickelodeon shows “Zoey 101,” “Drake and Josh” and their TV movie “Drake & Josh Go to Hollywood,” as well as "South of Nowhere" on Noggin and "Smallville" on the CW network. Guest appearances include: "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (2005 and 2007), “The Tyra Banks Show” (CBS), Good Day Atlanta (FOX), Daytime (NBC), Low Country Live (ABC), TV Guide Channel, and Cafe Central (CABLETV). Julie also received the 2005 LA Music Award for Best Adult Alternative Artist, has been featured in Music Connection Magazine’s Hot 100 unsigned bands (for both 2006 and 2007) and was also named one of the "Best Emerging Artists of 2006" in American Idol Magazine. Whoa. You can listen to the interview in our Archives section. |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Oh, it was quite a day and evening, all right. We had another awesome time on Sunday, June 8, 2008 as we celebrated Hounddog Radio's eighth birthday. This was our third consecutive year at the legendary Blind Willie's, and the staff and management always treat us much better than we could possibly deserve. We're very grateful to them for hosting us and can't say enough good things about their hospitality. We have PLENTY of photos to show (well over 100, as a matter of fact), which you can find in the slideshow below. In addition to everyone at Blind Willie's, we also want to offer our sincere appreciation to: • The
Bearfoot Hookers We'd also like to extend our gratitude to some surprise guests who came out and performed for us or even just stopped by to offer their support. A big thanks to our friends: • Levi
Lowrey And last but most certainly not least, we'd like to thank all of you who bought tickets and came out to celebrate with us. Y'all make what we do so much easier and worth the effort, and your continual support of HounddogRadio is absolutely wonderful. Thank you all. photos

Arlington
Priest on the Cybertoxic Lounge
November 06, 2007 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The amazing duo of Arlington Priest performed for us during The Cybertoxic Lounge program on Wednesday, November 6, 2007 and chatted with Eric Jefferson. We've admired Rhett and Jill McAllister's music since we'd first heard them a year before at our "Hillbilly Christmas" show, and we think they're even better now. They perform with a unique blend of harmonies, evocative lyrics and sincere presentation and can easily fit in the world of contemporary folk while swaggering through a glorious mixture of acoustic rock, alt-country, and pop to land squarely in the fields of Americana. Sadly, there was a technical glitch during this one, and we didn't notice it until after their interview. Therefore, we're sorry to say, our recording of the show was lost. Frank "the Hounddog" was particularly upset, mostly because of how wonderful the music and conversation had been throughout the show (Eric even sounded articulate at times, for a change). Oh well, it happens. We sure hope you had a chance to hear the show live, as Rhett and Jill sounded fantastic. And, hey, at least we have these photos. |

Pawnshop
Roses on Hounddog Radio
October 28, 2007 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
We had one HELL of a party in the Doghouse on Sunday, October 28, 2007 as Paul Keen and Justin Monteleone of Pawnshop Roses traveled down from Philadelphia, PA to perform for us. The music was rockin', the beer was flowin', and everyone was having a great, great time (though, uh, all of us were feelin' the pain the next morning). We've uploaded the interview in our Archives section, so you can catch it now if you missed it the first time around or just wanna give it another listen. Pawnshop Roses create some terrific music and entertained us throughout out the evening with their wonderful songs. We were honored to have them with us. Several of the Roses' family, friends and fans joined us in the chat room as well, which made the show even more of a fun time. |

Fester
Hagood's King Cotton Band on
the Cybertoxic Lounge
October 10, 2008 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
We love live music, especially when it's in our house. That's why we were so pleased that our good friends, Fester Hagood's King Cotton Band, gave us an "in-house concert" on Wednesday, October 10, 2007. If you were fortunate enough to attend our 2007 Birthday Bash this past June, you already knew what these boys can do. This time around, they gave us an...um...intimate performance of their awesome music. We've had Fester on Hounddog Radio a few times already and the guy's a terrific entertainer even on his own. However, this was the first time that the entire band (Fester, Johnny Walker, William Jarred Forrester and Scott Tracy) was at our place, and everyone had a blast. We're hoping these guys come back again. If they do, stock up on the brew, folks. It'll be that kind of night.

The
Paris Luna Band at Chip's Bar & Grill
September 28, 2007 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Nick & Cranky had the pleasure of catching the Paris Luna Band at Chip's Bar & Grill over in Winder, GA for one awesome performance. This outstanding group features Kane Russell on drums, Michael Harris on lead guitar, Billy Lyons on bass and the lovely Paris Luna on lead vocals, acoustic guitar and keyboards. Nick has been promoting Paris' music for a while now, and the rest of us are equally impressed with it. Check 'em out if you can.

The
Spencer Durham Group on the Cybertoxic Lounge
September 19, 2007 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
It was a great evening of music in The Cybertoxic Lounge when Spencer Durham, Alisha Anderson and Tanner Hendon all stopped by to talk with Eric Jefferson and play some of Spencer's awesome music. 19-year old Spencer Durham is an amazingly polished and accomplished performer, particularly for such a young age. We caught a few of his recent performances around the Atlanta area and were greatly impressed with his musical ability, as well as his showmanship. His latest CD, Much More Than Words, has quickly become one of our favorites, particularly the outstanding track, "Without a Doubt." All three of these young folks proved to be greatly talented as well as mature and level-headed for any age, let alone their actual ones. We enjoyed their visit very much.

The
Luxury Kings Live on Hounddog Radio
September 17, 2007 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
Jason Pastras and Eric Leland of The Luxury Kings were finally able to drop by the Doghouse on September 17, 2007. We've known these guys for quite a while now, but this was the first time we've ever had 'em in for an interview. It was good, good stuff. Eric and Jason were promoting their 3rd Annual Jimi Hendrix Tribute Night at Blind Willie's (also some of our favorite people). It's a fundraising event to help benefit us as well as The Leukemia-Lymphoma Society. The Luxury Kings (Jason on guitar, Eric on bass and Luke Wampler on drums) were quite the hit at our 2006 Birthday Bash show and we've been good friends ever since. Their new album, Chico Beats the Devil, is a cool blend of classic rock, blues, Memphis soul, southern rock, funk and even gospel influences. These guys are creating quite a buzz in the Atlanta area and beyond.

Delta
Moon on Friday Night Fusion
August 30, 2007 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|
What a great show it was when Tom Gray and Mark Johnson of Delta Moon stopped by the Doghouse on Friday, August 3, 2007. Delta Moon is a four-piece, bluesy Southern-roots band centered around the masterful slide guitar work of both Tom and Mark. Tom is also a renowned songwriter who, in addition to his wonderful Delta Moon compositions, has written music for Cyndi Lauper (“Money Changes Everything”), Carlene Carter, Manfred Mann, and many other well-known acts. The man has one hell of a resume, friends. Tom and Mark stopped by Friday Night Fusion to talk about Delta Moon's brand-new album, Clear Blue Flame (um, we're still not even close to being tired of 2005's Howlin' yet), and premiere some of the tracks. We dug 'em all. These guys front one of the most popular bands in the southeastern U.S., and that's not by accident. Not only is their music superb, but we enjoyed their stories as well and found them to be personable and interesting throughout the entire interview. Come on back anytime, guys!

Frank "the
Hounddog's" Surprise 50th Birthday Party
August 5, 2007 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Well, we got him, folks. On Sunday, August 5, 2007 our own fearless leader, Frank "the Hounddog" Coon was the guest of honor for one hell of a surprise party in celebration of his 50th birthday. His actual birthday is August 11, so that's how we managed to fool him. The plan was in place for weeks, as Frank's wife, Cathy (a.k.a. "Cat") made all arrangements via e-mail and/or whenever Frank's eagle ears weren't around to hear her on the phone. At one point, the woman even had to make a phone call from inside a closet. We're still amazed that she pulled the whole thing off, as Frank was legitimately unaware until he walked in and found about 50 or so of his friends and family to greet him, while many more reached by telephone to offer their best wishes. Frank's initial quote? "Well, I'll...be...damned." Priceless.

Hounddog
Radio's Seventh Birthday Bash
June 3, 2007 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
What a night it was on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at Blind Willie's in Atlanta, GA as we celebrated Hounddog Radio's seventh birthday. My, oh my, oh my. We were thrilled to have performances from some of our favorite local artists, such as: Kristin Tinsley, King Cotton, April Cummings, the Bearfoot Hookers and the Terry Flynn Band. These folks all came through for us in tremendous fashion, and we were truly honored to have each and every one of them onstage on our behalf. They and everyone who attended made this a truly wonderful day for us, and we sincerely thank them all. Unfortunately, none of us were able to snap any photos of Terry and the guys performing. If you were at the show and took some pictures of their performance and would like to share them with us, please drop us a line here (all photos will be properly credited to you). photos courtesy of Joe Koufman and Eric Jefferson

Little
Country Giants on the Gumbo Show with Joe
May 01, 2007 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
We were delighted to have Russell and Cameron Lee Cook of the Little Country Giants stop by The Gumbo Show with Joe to talk about all sorts of things and pick a few tunes in the studio. These wonderful, acoustic performers have been voted "Best Traditional Folk Act" (Reader's Choice), for Creative Loafing's Best of Atlanta in both 2005 and 2006. David Eduardo of AthensMusic.com says: "The music performed by Little Country Giants dates to an era where cowboys were becoming an endangered species--but well before Nashville endorsed drawstring linen pants, highlighted hair, and expensive porcelain teeth...(They) take listeners to the front porch of an antebellum mansion. Everyone gets a rocking chair, and the fire flies flames are never extinguished." Well said and accurate. Check out the Giants' album, Breaking Hearts and Living Free, and you'll get a good taste of what all these folks are talking about.

The "Beer
Club for Men" on Saturday Night Jam
April 07, 2007 |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
The final night (and, uh, morning) of Saturday Night Jam at the original Doghouse was on April 07, 2007, and we definitely sent the ol' place off in style. That would be because the “Beer Club for Men”, featuring the Bearfoot Hookers' Ty Manning, Ken Will Morton, Fester Hagood, and Ken Williams trekked down from Athens to our place for a fantastic night of music, stories, laughs, and (of course) beer. The guitars were literally being passed from one performer to another, and each artist's songs and unique style was quite interesting to hear, not to mention damn entertaining. We were moving verrrrrry slowly the next day (considering what time the party actually ended, perhaps we should say later that same day), but it was well worth it. Also joining the guys in a surprise appearance was our lovely friend, Kristin Tinsley, who once again treated us to some of her outstanding music. Our own Eric Jefferson even added a song into the mix, despite being intimidated by all of the real talent in the room. It was an informal, songwriters-in-the-round kind of an evening that we’d love to see come around again. Frank called this night "one of the most best shows we've had on Hounddog Radio...ever." That's high praise coming from him. No joke. Ty brought his camera along and snapped these photos of the drinking, performances, drinking, and other goings on (by that we mean - drinking). The, uh, club is welcome back anytime for future meetings. No reservations required.
