Well folks, as you're probably aware, we were originally planning "farewell" festivities for this weekend, but it turns out we're still alive and kickin' (with a lot of help from you fine folks out there) and hope to be for quite a while. However, let it never be said that Hounddog Radio ever away a perfectly good excuse to have a party. In fact, you might say that we have two big nights for you this weekend!

First, our dear friend Kristin Tinsley will be hanging out with Cat on the January 15 edition of Friday Night Freedom, from 9-12 EST. It's been too long since we've had this talented and fun-loving lady in with us, so we have a lot to catch up on with her. We're hoping she'll play a new song or two for us, but you can help us out with that by coming into the chat room and asking her as well.

Then on Saturday, the "Jam" is on from 8pm-12am (or later) EST with not one, not two, but three sets of special guests! Our good friends Ty Manning and Mark Durfield of The Bearfoot Hookers will be stopping by, as well as musician extraordinaire David Leinweber, and our house band", as Frank likes to call them, The Three-Legged Boozehounds (you local folks may also know 'em by their only slightly more respectable alter ego: The Grant & Moe Show). Whoa boy. We're guessing that someone will open a beer or ten during this one, and we ain't talking about Cat. Well, not necessarily, anyway.

So make plans to party with us this weekend. Hey, we feel like we have a new lease on life, 'cause we kinda do. Join us in the celebration!

Fourth Annual "Jingle Jog and Reindeer Dash for Autism" on December 12

Jingle Jog for Autism

If you're local to Hounddog Radio (or can be), we'd love for you to join us for the fourth annual Jingle Jog for Autism & Reindeer Dash Fun Run on Saturday, December 12, at West Walton Park in Loganville. It's a wonderful event that benefits F.A.C.E.S. Summer Camp 2010, an organization helping children/young adults age 4-21 who suffer from Autism. In addition to being a very worthy cause, this event is great family fun, with a 5K "jog" (you can also walk it or be pushed via stroller or wheelchair), and a "Reindeer Dash" 1 mile fun run.

But that's not all. There'll also be a Santa's Playground, ornament making, and vendor booths for shopping. And last but certainly not least, there will be special appearances by Santa and Mrs. Claus and Kung Fu Panda himself!

Please visit F.A.C.E.S. Summer Camp 2010 for more information and find how you can get involved. We hope to see ya there!

Thanks to everyone who came out for the
Loganville Autumn Heritage Festival on November 7

Autumn Heritage Festival

What a great day! We were honored to be part of this annual celebration of our fine little town, and we want to thank everyone involved for making it such a wonderful event. We'll post more about it soon, but here's a little recap of what it's all about:

Autumn Heritage Festival, Loganville, GA November 7, 2009; 9:00 am to 3:00 pm

The Autumn Heritage Festival will surely take visitors back in time. Loganville, GA was founded by James Harvie Logan in 1842. He built his family home on his 62.5 acre lot and saw the population grow over the next several years. Loganville was first incorporated in 1887 with the city limit line stretching a half mile in every direction from the town well. As Loganville's population began to flourish, the downtown area did as well. Over time business grew along Main Street where folks would shop, eat and visit near the town well. It wasn't too long ago when families would shop at Sparkey's Grocery. Friends and neighbors would meet at the well to reconnect and catch up.

On Saturday, November 7, 2009, the streets of Loganville will be filled once again as we come together for the Autumn Heritage Festival. Between 9:00am and 3:00pm, friends and neighbors from all across the town will gather to shop, eat and visit. Visitors will find anything to fancy their style from our 130 exhibitors. After shopping, folks can feel free to set up their lawn chairs on the City Hall lawn and enjoy some music and/or talent from our stage areas.

The City of Loganville is happy to embrace our heritage and invite you to our downtown area to buy modern day goods and crafts. Loganville has come full circle and is returning to a time "Where People Matter". We welcome friends from far and wide to visit our community andenjoy the Autumn Heritage Festival, November 7, from 9am to 3pm.

Loganville is located 30 miles east of Atlanta and/or 30 miles west of Athens, and can be reached via Highway 78. The festival will be held in our downtown area near City Hall. Parking will be located downtown with shuttled parking at Loganville Elementary, First United Methodist Church and Loganville Baptist Church, all on Main Street.

For more information, please visit: http://www.autumnheritagefestival.com. Questions can be forwarded to: info@autumnheritagefestival.com.

Many of y'all know that, over the past two years or so, we've been hosting a series of "songwriter-in-the-round" events featuring some of our favorite local (and occasionally not-so-local) artists. Well, we had another fine one on Sunday, September 27. This particular installment was a special "ladies only" edition with two of our favorite folks: Grace Buford and Julie Gribble (a third of our favorite ladies, Kristin Tinsley, was unfortunately under the weather and couldn't attend). All of these wonderful women had been in the Doghouse before and we love 'em dearly. In fact, we love 'em so dearly that we're kinda surprised that they agree to keep coming back. We're just glad that they do.

Hosting this special "ladies only" edition was our good friend (and Loganville's own) Gail Moore! Gail did an outstanding job in the host(ess) chair, and we'd love to have her come back any time she likes.

And, lastly, all of this wasn't just carried on Hounddog Radio. No, no. We were also simulcasting this special show live via our pals over at Hitpower24 in Germany, as well as out to the great folks over at the virtual world of Second Life! Awwwwww, yeah. It was truly a fine time, folks. We'll be posting more photos of it very soon.

Hello, Shanghai!

We were recently delighted to receive an e-mail from a gentleman named Eric, who has been listening to us from Shanghai, China. Eric is creating a website for folks in Shanghai who enjoy listening to Internet radio, and he was kind enough to include Hounddog Radio as one of the stations! Thank you, sir! The site is still in its infancy, but we're already honored to be a part of it.

Hounddog Radio's 9th Birthday Bash

Oh, it was a fine time, friends. We celebrated our 9th annual Birthday Bash on Sunday, June 7 at @tmosphere, right in our hometown of Loganville, GA! We'll be posting more details and some (perhaps a lot of) photos very soon.

Our lineup this year included:

Grace Buford
Johnny Roquemore
April Cummings
Julie Gribble
Fester Hagood
Stray Dancer

The Three-Legged Boozehounds
(a.k.a. The Grant & Moe Show)
Corey Crowder
Rockin' Pontoons
Fishing with Dynamite

The Terry Flynn Band

That's by far the most acts we've ever had in one show, and quite a diverse group at that. We want to offer our most sincere and heartfelt appreciation to all of these talented performers who donated their time and craft to help us do what we do. We love to say that we support independent and/or local musicians and we do. However, the flip side of that is that many of them help support us every bit as much, including all of the folks on the above list and many, many more. We're grateful to all of you and are honored to call y'all friends.

Corey Crowder "Pickin' on the Porch" to be rescheduled

Corey Crowder

We were originally scheduled to have Corey Crowder in for a Pickin' on the Porch performance on Sunday, May 17. Unfortunately, we had a miscommunication of some sort with Corey, so the show had to be quickly postponed. We apologize for any inconvenience that this caused. We'll be having Corey come by soon and will let y'all know when we have a date set.

"The Hounddog" himself had the opportunity to catch this talented young man perform a little while back, and the 'Dog was mighty impressed, both with Corey's talent as well as his demeanor. We're excited to have Corey doing the latest installment in our Pickin' on the Porch series.

Corey's a Georgia native who's developed a unique mixture of folk, jazz, and country, largely due to his southern upbringing. He likes to blend his southern roots with his love for old jazz classics to form a smooth sound that's all his own. You can hear it all over his 2007 release, Learning to Let Go. Corey's got a brand-new album out as well, Gold and the Sand, and we're gettin' to know that one right now. So far, we dig it. A lot.

And don't forget that Corey will be part of our HUGE lineup for the 2009 Hounddog Radio Birthday Bash! See below the entry above this for more information.

Nixterversary 09

anniversary balloons

We had a great time for the Nixterversary show on Friday, April 24, which was broadcast LIVE from @atmosphere in Loganville, GA. Here's what Nick had to say about it:

"Thanks to everybody who came out to @tmosphere in Loganville for the LIVE REMOTE broadcast of Nixterversary '09!!! We had a blast, and the nice folks at the club even let us eat and drink for free -- they also gave us a couple of @tmosphere T-shirts.

Again, thanks to everyone involved with the anniversary show, to those who showed up in person AND online. You faithful fans are what keeps us going!

-Nick Sommers

Thanks to Grace Buford for coming back to the Doghouse on April 29

Grace Buford

One of the coolest, classiest, and most creative artists we know dropped by once again to see us all, and we're always honored to have her here. Our dear friend Grace Buford returned to Hounddog Radio for yet another live performance for both us and her Second Life fans. Grace brought along a friend this time: Beth Brown of Fish Fry Bingo (man, do we love that name). The ladies performed a sample set in preparation for their performance at American Tavern in Loganville, GA the following night. They also gave us a follow-up performance via The Second Life show immediately after our own Cybertoxic Lounge program.

Oh...what's Second Life, you ask? Just check out the recent video below from CNN (yes, that CNN) to hear Grace explain it and to get a taste of what it's all about.

Thanks to Terry Flynn for coming by the Doghouse on February 22

Terry Flynn

One of our best buds came by again, as we welcomed our ol' pal Terry Flynn back to the Doghouse on Sunday, February 22. We've been playing Terry's debut album, Again Tonight, for a few years now and still love it. Well, folks, Terry's back this time with a brand-new album, and we couldn't wait to hear it. If you were able to catch the show, you know that we weren't disappointed.

Terry and Frank talked about the new album, the music business, and a few other items that came up along the way. Terry is not only an outstanding musician and entertainer, he's also a terrific interview. What's more, he's gonna be back for our Birthday Bash this June! More details on that will be coming very soon.

In Memory of Radar: August 11, 1996 - July 27, 2008

Radar

The Doghouse is truly a sad place at the moment, as we've lost a dear member of the family. Our beloved mascot (and Frank's leader dog), Radar, passed away in the early morning of July 27, 2008. He had recently been diagnosed with lymphoma, which is an all-too common killer of German Shepherds and similar breeds of dogs. He would've been 12 years old on August 11, but our friend Radar's condition unfortunately deteriorated rather quickly in recent days.

A STATEMENT FROM FRANK "THE HOUNDDOG" ON RADAR'S PASSING

"I would like to thank each and every one of you for your heart-felt condolences over the past few days. As you may know from our posting over the weekend, I lost my leader dog, long-time friend, companion, and partner, Radar. He died in the early morning hours of July 27, 2008, due to complications from lymphoma. Radar's love, loyalty, friendship, sense of humor, and devotion over the past 11-plus years will be deeply missed and never forgotten. He had a knack for winning people over and touching their hearts even when they didn't wish him to do so.

Radar had the pleasure of sharing the stage with a lot of wonderful human beings in his lifetime. There was no obstacle too great for Radar to overcome, from navigating construction sites, guiding us through strange towns, and even putting himself in front of a car to take a hit for me (which he did). He was everything in a leader dog and protector that we could possibly ask.

Radar, my friend, you're at peace now and you will forever be in my heart. I love you."

Frank "the Hounddog" Coon

We honored Radar during a special broadcast that aired Wednesday, July 30, 2008. Naturally, Frank hosted this show as a way to pay his respects to his (and our) loyal, departed friend. Goodbye, Radar. You'll always be with us.
