Southern pine forests, winding rivers, and muddy bare feet
are luxuries to Atlanta, GA. native Grace Buford. Life's experiences,
be they good or bad, are the fuel and passion that underpin
her unique style of songwriting and
it shows. Grace's music engages the heart and mind of her audience,
there is feeling and the feeling is shared. From a rhythmic
acoustic song about facing negative thoughts in a battle for
the mind to a flowing, ethereal keyboard that exposes the vulnerability
of facing change, Grace's music and live performances are an
emotional ride that will leave you spellbound and wanting more.
As with those shining lights of previous generations of folk/acoustic
rock acts, Grace's influences are broad. She is open-minded,
curious and not a believer in musical boundaries.
Of course, to truly experience Grace the best way is to catch
her live show. A performer that holds nothing back in terms
of energy and is happiest when sharing. There's no pretense
or falsehoods, no trickery or gimmicks, be it an intimate venue
or a hall you are guaranteed the bare-footed energetic dynamo
that is Grace Buford, a voyage of laughter, of tears and every
emotion in between is shared openly with her audience and it
will leave you wanting for more.

It just comes naturally for Julie Gribble, writing, singing,
and performing. But what she loves most is to inspire, to reach
people with her music.
Julie's credits include the Lifetime movie “Dive at
Clauson’s Pier,” popular Nickelodeon shows “Zoey
101,” “Drake and Josh” and their TV movie “Drake & Josh
Go to Hollywood,” as well as "South of Nowhere" on
Noggin and "Smallville" on the CW network. Guest
appearances include: "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (2005
and 2007), “The Tyra Banks Show” (CBS), Good Day
Atlanta (FOX), Daytime (NBC), Low Country Live (ABC), TV Guide
Channel, and Cafe Central (CABLETV). Julie also received the 2005
LA Music Award for Best Adult Alternative Artist, has
been featured in Music Connection Magazine’s Hot
100 unsigned bands (for both 2006 and 2007) and was also named
one of the "Best Emerging Artists of 2006" in American
Idol Magazine. And, of course, Hounddog Radio. This lovely
lady is definitely a quickly rising star not to miss.

and drummer Sean Bennett came by the Doghouse on June
25, 2008 and played a few tunes for us. You can listen

The Tribe of Good Fortune is the latest southern musical force
to be reckoned with. Born out of what started out as Len Rosen's
first solo studio album, all the pieces soon fell into place
to form much more of a group effort. And just like that, the
Tribe of Good Fortune came to be..
We're playing pretty much the entire track listing from their
fantastic debut CD, Always
Tomorrow, as well as many of Len's solo and
earlier songs.
Len Rosen & the Tribe of Good Fortune were also part of
the lineup for our Birthday Bash on June 8,
and we were glad to have 'em. They're a terrific live band with
a truly unique sound. Len & the Tribe go by the motto: "we
make music the old-fashioned way... we PLAY it!" They do
that, and do it well.
Len
Rosen and guitarist Richie Mays stopped by our place
on June 04, 2008 to chat with us and play a few tunes
live. You can listen to the entire show right

Hailing from Alpharetta, GA, High Cotton is a group of "seasoned" musicians
whose collective experience gives their original songs a depth
and quality that is timeless. Their sound combines soulful
and devilishly passionate vocals with a cool mix of rhythm
guitar, deep bass undertones, percussion and smooth leads.
Proud of their many band journeys over the years, the band
members' different sensibilities and perspectives find its
way into their songs - reflecting experiences only gained by
having "lived some life." Your heart strings will
be pulled and your funny bone tickled as their music moves
from dramatic ballads to the ridiculously funny.
This band's unique sound stretches the "Americana" tag,
resulting in the memorable songs on their latest CD, Pictures.
A little bit of this and that mixes with all parts of life’s
journeys to create a full bale of...High Cotton.
High
Cotton performed for us in May 2008, as part of our
revived "Pick'n on the Porch" series. We
will posting the show in our archives soon.

This 14-year-old sensation comes from our little-ol' hometown
of Loganville, GA, and we couldn't be more proud to share the
same zip code with this outstanding young lady. Among Moriah's
accomplishments are several North America Country Music Associations
International (NACMAI) awards, including: the 2008 "Horizon
Award" for Best New Female Vocalist, 2008 Horizon Award
for Best New Female Country Entertainer, 2008 Best New Country
Songwriter of the Year ("In Too Deep") and the 2008
Best New Patriotic song ("America, The Beacon of Freedom"),
and the 2008 Best New Country Holiday Song ("For Mary's
Baby Boy").
If that's not impressive enough, Moriah has also taken home
several Georgia Country & Gospel Music Association (GCGMA) awards
for Top Teen Country Artist, CD of the Year, and many more. And
the most amazing thing is that this talented lady is just getting
started.
Moriah joined us for Nick Sommers' two-year "Nixterversary" show
in April 2008 and was an absolute joy to have with us. We're
hoping she stops back again sometime soon, particularly since
we're practically neighbors 'n' all.

The Eric Dodd Band released their
first album in late 2007 and...well...we were impressed on first
listen. Heal is
a CD full of outstanding tunes such as “Goodbye Kiss" and "Georgia
Grove." We're playing the whole thing, as a matter of fact.
That's how much we dig it..
Eric Dodd, Tom DuPree,
and Bill Peters have played
all over the southeastern
U.S. for the past two years
and are looking to take
their popular sounds further.
Eric’s southern,
soul-filled stories of
breakups, heartache, re-kindling
of relationships, freedom,
and – finally – hope
fill the album. It's as
fine a debut album as we've
heard in a long, long time.

Dodd came by HounddogRadio.net

tunes for us live.

Rockin’ Pontoons is a six-piece
group has accumulated an impressive following around the Atlanta
area. Critics have raved about the Pontoons’ debut album, Faith
in a Happy Ending, and we’d go right along
with them. Performing Songwriter magazine even selected it as a “Top-12
DIY” national pick! Kudos, guys!
Rockin’ Pontoons frontman
Steve Coffey (a.k.a, "Long-haired
Rock Star with a Million Songs")
has lived in Atlanta for over
a decade and is a damn fine songwriter.
We can tell that just from the
CD we have. Give the Pontoons
a listen.
We
were fortunate to have
Steve Coffey visit our
studio in October 2007,
and we enjoyed hearing
some of his hilarious
stories as well as his
fine music. You can check

Pawnshop Roses are a terrific band
out of Philadelphia, PA. They remind us of what a good ol' rock
'n' roll groove used to sound like, with roots firmly
planted in rock, blues, country and (as they call it) "some
dirty Philly thrown in."
We're truly digging Pawnshop
Roses' debut full-length
album, Let it Roll.
Among their outstanding
accomplishments was winning
the 2006
YouTube Underground Video
contest for Best Live Video!
As a result, the band appeared
on ABC's Good Morning America
and has been featured in Time
Magazine. The Roses
have also performed on
several regional NBC, ABC,
and CBS morning shows.
All that press is truly
well-deserved.
Paul
Keen and Justin "Blaze" Monteleone
of Pawnshop Roses
stopped by our
place in October
2007 (on their
way to a recording
session at Memphis'
legendary Sun Studios)
and treated us
to a memorable
evening of great
music and conversation.

Andrew Black is quite a well-known
figure in the Atlanta music scene. He has toured all over the U.S.,
both as a solo act and with his band. Andrew is a third-generation
musician and plays more than eight instruments, including guitar,
drums, bass guitar and trumpet. His music encompasses many styles
and genres such as: blues, jazz, southern rock and country. If
you think that sounds like an ideal artist for Hounddog Radio,
you would be 100% correct.
Andrew's live album, Live @ Fee-Lay
Gumbo, has become a staple around Hounddog Radio. We were
just as excited to hear the followup CD, 14th and Crescent,
which showcases a more soulful side to this talented performer.
In any form, Andrew's distinctive voice and sweet guitar licks
cut right to the heart. Getcha some.
Andrew

Delta Moon is an outstanding four-piece,
bluesy Southern-roots band centered on the masterful slide
guitar work of Tom Gray and Mark Johnson. Tom is also an
accomplished songwriter for other artists in addition to
his wonderful Delta Moon compositions. He has written music
for Cyndi Lauper (“Money Changes Everything”),
Carlene Carter, Manfred Mann, and many other well-known acts.
The man has one hell of a resume, friends.
Delta Moon's released Clear
Blue Flame in August 2007 and we're
digging it quite a bit. Oh, hell, we're still not even
close to being tired of 2005's Howlin' yet.
That one's great, too. I guess what we're saying is that
you can't go wrong with either one, so we say get 'em
both!
Mark and Tom front one of the most popular
bands in the southeastern U.S. Check 'em out.
We
were delighted to have Mark and Tom drop by the station
back in August 2007. These guys had some terrific stories
to tell. Listen to the show right

19-year old Spencer Durham is an amazingly
polished and accomplished performer, particularly for such a young
age. In September 2007, we were fortunate enough to have Spencer
(along with bandmates Alisha Anderson and Tanner Hendon) pay us
a visit and play a few songs. All three performers proved to be
greatly talented as well as mature and level-headed for any age,
let alone their actual ones. We enjoyed their visit very much and
welcome them back anytime.
Spencer's latest CD, Much
More Than Words, has quickly become one
of our favorites. He has opened for the likes of the Black
Crowes, the Allman Brothers, Ziggy Marley, Del McCoury and
David Grisman. We predict even greater accomplishments coming
from this impressive young man in the future.
Spencer
and his bandmates Alisha Anderson and Tanner Hendon all
stopped by HounddogRadio.net in September 2007 and thoroughly
impressed us all. Listen to the show right

Fester Hagood's King Cotton Band was on the bill
for our 2007 Birthday Bash and left many of the
patrons (hell, even us) wide-eyed and
awestruck with their performance.
Joining our good friend Fester are bassist William
Jarred Forrester, drummer Scott Tracy and new guitarist Johnny
Walker (yes, that's his real name). Fester has been in our studio
numerous times and always treats us to some of his terrific (and
often hysterical) songs. And, the man brings beer. What more can
we ask for?
With roots firmly planted in country, blues and
southern rock, these guys have been growing a faithful following.
If you're looking for music from the heart and soul of a genuine
southern band that still plays for the love of the show and a bar
tab, Fester Hagood's King Cotton Band is for you. They're definitely
for us.

Folk singer/songwriter/humorist Johnny Roquemore (pronounced
ROCK-more and it's his real name) is one of our favorite performers
of any kind. He's been an actor, musician,
songwriter and all-around entertainer for over 35 years. He
was even on TV's The Gong Show in the mid-'70s. For
the contest, Johnny performed the "William Tell Overture"...on
harmonica (he won that night, by the way). Johnny has also
been voted Creative Loafing Magazine Critics' Choice
for "Best Local Singer/Songwriter" in Atlanta and
he's a very deserving choice.
Johnny's music has been featured on Dr. Demento's show and he's
been a staple at the legendary Eddie's
Attic club for many years. We don't know which we
like better, his humor or his music. Thank goodness they're rolled
together so nicely.
|
These wonderful,
acoustic performers hailing from Rome, GA, have been voted "Best
Traditional Folk Act" (Reader's Choice), for Creative
Loafing's "Best of Atlanta" issue for both 2005
and 2006. David Eduardo of AthensMusic.com says:
"The music performed by Little Country Giants dates to an
era where cowboys were becoming an endangered species--but well
before Nashville endorsed drawstring linen pants, highlighted hair,
and expensive porcelain teeth...(They) take listeners to the front
porch of an antebellum mansion. Everyone gets a rocking chair,
and the fire flies flames are never extinguished."
Well said, and dead-on accurate. Check out the Giants' album, Sing
Pretty for the People, and you'll get a
good taste of what all these folks are talking about.
Russell
and Cameron Lee Cook of the Little Country Giants were
our first-ever guests in our new studio, as they stopped
by "The Gumbo Show with Joe" in May '07. Listen

Ken Will Morton treated us to some of his wonderful
music during our inaugural "songwriters-in-the-round" (a.k.a., "Beer
Club for Men") evening in April '07, and we loved every one.
His gritty, straight-ahead musical style and sharp-tongued, from-the-heart
lyrics recall such luminaries as Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan,
with a unique twist to it all that's strictly Ken Will Morton.
Originally hailing from Hartford, CT and now making his home near
Athens, GA, Ken's blend of blues, country, and rock has captured
the attention of music critics across the country.
Ken's first solo album, In
Rock ‘n’ Roll's Hands, was
released in 2004 and caught the attention of music critics
across the country as well as airplay on many charting non-commercial
radio stations. The music takes listeners on the rocky and
life-changing road that Ken himself has traveled.
King
of Coming Around was released in 2006.
We're playing several songs from it and we think it's as
strong an album as anything we've heard in quite some time.
With outstanding cuts like "Make Believe Love", "Beautiful
Moment", and the title track, this CD would make a more
than worthy addition to anyone's music collection.

Kristin Tinsley is fast becoming quite a musical force around the
Atlanta area, and soon beyond. She released her debut album, Cry
Out to the Night, in late 2006, and we're proud
to say that we were the first station to add it
to a playlist! We weren't the only ones playing it for long, however,
nor should we have been. You can check it out and pick up a copy
for yourself right
here.
Kristin's songs pay homage to '70s classic-rock bands
such as Fleetwood Mac, the Eagles, Tom Petty, and other artists
who, way back when, created melody-driven and memorable music that
resonated with fans of many genres and age groups. As Kristin says, "I
try to take those influences that make their music special to me
and blend it with trends that are popular today." We don't
know much about current trends here at Hounddog Radio (one look
at the clothes in our closets would tell you that), but we do know
good music. This young lady delivers that and more.
Kristin has quickly become a great friend of Hounddog
Radio and participated in many of our events. She was the show
opener for our 2007 Birthday Bash and gave us not one, but two extended
sets of fine music. Kristin is welcome in the Doghouse any time
she sees fit to stop by.
Kristin stopped
by "The Cybertoxic Lounge" in February '07. Listen

We've been playing April Cummings' music for quite a while now, and
we just keep liking it more and more. One of the finest singers we
know, April is an accomplished songwriter and performer who blends
an intriguing mix of country, rock and soul to her music. Her first
album, Just a Little Country, is a fine
example of what we mean (we're particularly fond of "On My Radio", "Southern
Livin'", and the title track). The songs, the vocals, the production,
everything is top-notch all around. I guess what we're saying is,
we dig it.
April hails from Gainesville, GA and proudly wears
her southern heritage with style. She's been featured in Gritz
Magazine, and atlantacountrymusic.com nominated her Just
a Little Country for "Best CD of the Year." Those
folks have some good taste. She's currently working on her second
album, which we believe will be ready for release sometime in late
2007 or early 2008.
We were honored to have April perform an acoustic
set at our 2007 Birthday Bash. Whether it be as a solo artist or
with a band, it's always a treat to hear this beautiful lady sing.
April stopped by "The
Cabaret Show with Joe" in January '07. Listen to the

One of our favorite
bands is this fun-lovin' group of guys from Athens, GA who happen
to play some of the finest southern rock & roll and country
around. They've been in our studio several times now, and it's always a
party when they join us (that may have something to do with the
amount of beer they always bring). We've even taken to calling
them "the official house band" of Hounddog Radio. They
seem to be OK with that title. Do yourself a favor and pick up
one or both of their albums: Sweet
Pickle Grits and Life
at the Bar. We wholeheartedly endorse them both,
unless you're opposed to having a good time.
The Bearfoot Hookers call their music "beer-drinkin'
gospel," and we at Hounddog Radio are proud and faithful believers.
Rumor has it that they're especially fond of "Miller High
Life, Lynyrd Skynyrd albums, and Waffle House waitresses looking
for short, meaningless relationships." All we know is, they'll
make you dance, they'll make you sing, and they'll probably make
you do a shot or two (or several) at the bar, all at the same time.
These guys are a blast and we love 'em. Check 'em out!

Sue G. Wilkinson
has been described as "a siren with a soulful sound." We
agree, we agree. She is an accomplished songwriter and performer
with a unique, ambient style. Her most recent album, Little
Crimes, is a perfect example of Sue and her band's
talents and versatility. You'll find melodic pop tracks mixed with
some piano-based rockin' R&B, with Sue's fantastic vocals being
the constant throughout.
Sue has won and been nominated for numerous local,
national and even international awards. She can also be heard in
radio commercials for The National Milk Association, Six Flags
Over Georgia, and our personal favorite...Waffle House! YES!
Sue has performed for audiences all around the globe
and has also opened for the likes of Pearl Jam, Indigo Girls, Kansas,
Grateful Dead's Bob Weir, Michelle Shocked, and the Red Hot Chili
Peppers. That's quite a diverse list, don'tcha think?

The Luxury Kings explore new blues in the tradition of the great
power trios, both re-interpreting traditional blues and creating
their own electric blues-inspired music. Guitarist Jason Pastras,
bassist Eric Leland and drummer Luke Wampler have been playing
in bands together off and on since the early 1990s. Their debut
CD, This
One's For Chico, was released in the fall of
2002. Containing eight original songs, Chico was quickly embraced
by the Atlanta music scene, getting favorable reviews in Creative
Loafing and the Atlanta Blues Society Newsletter.
The Luxury Kings rocked the house at our Birthday Bash show in
June 2006 (pictured; Jason's scorching guitar solos, in particular,
widened many eyes in the room) and we were honored to have them
participate. Their new album, Chico
Beats the Devil, finds the boys even further
embracing classic rock, blues, Memphis soul, southern rock, funk
and even gospel influences. The addition of keyboardist Joe Worrell
on four of the tracks also expanded the Luxury Kings’ sonic
landscape, as did the extra dimensions of acoustic guitars, bottleneck
slide guitar and percussion instruments. These guys are creating
quite a buzz in the Atlanta area and beyond. We dig 'em.
|
The Sin Hounds (Jon Harris, Brad Fowler and Clint
Aul) are a three-piece band conjuring up quite a buzz in the heavily
populated Atlanta music scene. They are an eclectic sound of blues,
rock, and folk with a firm grip on the pulse of Americana. Their
first album, Last Days of Chattanooga, has been met with
praise from both critics and
fans (hell, we sure like it). It's been described as "greasy
listening" and "hip enough for Fat Possum collectors
and sweet
enough for the Van
Morrison recollectors." Their
live album, Story to Tell,
was recorded at Atlanta's famous
Blind Willie's blues club and
released in March 2006. They
were also our "show closer" for
the Hounddog Radio Birthday Bash
show at Blind Willie's in June
2006 and were amazing.
These guys are not your run-of-the-mill "white-boy blues
band." They are a melting pot of sound that can move you to
your feet one moment and then hush you for the next. They don't
adhere to a certain genre (sorta like us), but
they bring out the true essence of every style they address (hopefully like
us). Southern rockers will be in awe of them. Dancers will twirl
to the medleys. Blues fans will respect them. Their music and vigor
truly know no boundaries.

Singer/songwriter/guitarist Terry Flynn has lived
in Atlanta, GA his entire life an has won several songwriting contests
over the years. He also recently won two rounds in the regional “Nashville
Star” competition and was on the bill for both our 2006 and 2007
Birthday Bash events. Terry Flynn conjures up "tales
of high- speed romance and slow-lane heartache", and we like
it just fine.
Terry's latest release, Again
Tonight, is available at CDBaby.com and
features some of Atlanta's finest and best-known players.
It's another 12 songs of great music from one of our favorite
performers. Terry is one of our closest friends and a thoroughly
entertaining performer. He makes us proud.

It would take us a long time to run out of adjectives
describing how much we adore this amazing woman. We've been playing
tracks from Kimberley's smash album, Let's
Sleep on it Tonight, for the past two years and
have been honored to have her join us on the air on a few occasions.
She was also part of our 2006 Birthday Bash.
In addition to her fine solo career, Kimberley is
also the current bassist for the legendary classic-rock band Boston.
Her music is a fresh and exhilarating sound that refuses to be
categorized. In a music world saturated with sterile, homogenized
and "targeted" music, such uncompromising versatility
is not only refreshing to hear, it's necessary.

"She's good. She's damn good." Sting's summation of
his duet with singer-songwriter Diane Durrett speaks for anyone
who's ever heard her perform. Diane has opened for Faith Hill,
Patty Loveless, Tina Turner, Delbert McClinton, and Derek Trucks,
and lit up Atlanta in a “Stormy Monday” duet with Gregg
Allman.
Durrett has long reflected the musical passions that inspired
her when growing up in Atlanta. From her energy-driven breakthrough
debut 50,000 Volts of Soul (1993) to her superbly executed Rhythm
of Life (1998) to her most recent release, CHILL,
Durrett has continued her musical expedition towards defining her
soulful voice and creating colorful songs.
Diane has been a guest on Hounddog Radio a few times and we can't
say enough good things about her. Give her a listen what we (and,
uh, Sting) mean.

The blues can be defined in a limitless number of ways, but it
will forever be the soul's measurement of self-expression and self-healing.
Where mere words cannot articulate, and movement is incomplete,
music bridges the chasm. "I always say I was born singin'," recalls
Francine. "When the doctor slapped me on the ass, I went (singing)
'Look at me!'"
Ms. Reed has shared the stage with luminaries such as: Miles Davis,
Smokey Robinson, Etta James, The Crusaders and, most recently,
Al Green. She also sang a solo version of "The Lord's Prayer" at
Lyle Lovett and Julia Roberts' wedding.
|
|
King Johnson brings you funky roots music from Atlanta, GA. The
band's organic mix of New Orleans funk, blues, jazz, latin and
rock styles make for a unique sound often hard to categorize. Crowds
of all ages love the butt-shakin' grooves, catchy songs and extended
improvisations of King Johnson. Voted Atlanta's best band in the "blues" category
for half of a decade, Creative Loafing Magazine praised
King Johnson for "incorporating hook-heavy writing and facile playing
with New Orleans brass funk and jazz." It's swampy, greasy, jazzy,
spontaneous, loose and tight all at the same time.
|
The X-Miss Americas have been playing an awesome blend of blues,
country and good ol' fashioned rock 'n' roll since 1999. They're
based in Atlanta, GA and led by singer/slide guitarist Ab "the
Flagman" Ivens (yes, he actually creates flags, in all shapes
and sizes). Ab can be found singing, sliding and jiving with X-Miss
Americas throughout the Southeast. These guys are southern to the
core and, in their words, "an eclectic mix of Americana." Sounds
good to us!

Richard Bicknell's brand of folk rock draws from the work of such
Texas singer/songwriters as Van Zandt, Nanci Griffith and Eric
Taylor. Over the past 13 years, he has been the opening act for
such legendary artists as Elton John and Emmylou Harris. He's also
performed with such extraordinarily talented artists as: Luka Bloom,
Peter Case, Don Dixon, Robert Earl Keen, David Olney, Katy Moffatt,
Kelly Willis, Lucinda Williams, Robin and Linda Williams and Victoria
Williams. The man keeps some good company.
Richard recently released his third album, Baby
Lightning. He and Steve Boyes, Scott Patton, David
Webb and Sean O’Rourke form "Richard Bicknell & The
Shameless Lovers."
|
Sean O'Rourke has been a professional drummer for over 25 years,
including tours across the United States, Canada, and Europe. Sean
has drummed for such acts as: Howard Tate, Chuck Rainey, William
Bell, Pat Travers, Mothers Finest, The Aquarium Rescueunit, Derek
Trucks, Oteil and The Peacemakers, Solomon Burke, Speech and Arrested
Development, Leo Nocentelli, Francine Reed, Ike Stubblefield, David "Honeyboy" Edwards,
Andrew Black, RIchard Bicknell and Snooky Pryor. He's also provided
his talent for the NBA, NASCAR, TBS, CNN, TNN, Turner South, Cartoon
Network, The Discovery Channel.
Sean recently completed a drumming stint for the multi-platinum
country band, Sugarland.

Torque features the soaring guitar expertise of Mark Hitt, the
legendary powerhouse drumming of Steve Luongo, the keyboard mastery
of Chris Clark and the dynamic bass of Jeff Ganz. The band says
the name "Torque" describes their music perfectly. Luongo
was the longtime drummer in the John Entwistle Band and was asked
to give a eulogy at the legendary Who bassist's memorial service
in October 2002. Subsequently. Torque's 2003 album, 103103,
was dedicated to Entwistle, who was a close musical colleague and
friend of Luongo's. Check them out.

Craver is an acoustic-based rock band from Atlanta, GA. Craver
evolved from the original music of local singer/songwriter, David
Craver. The band released its first album, Get
Out of My Head, in 2003. Their second
album, Better
Man, was released the following year. It's a
collection of new songs, plus the title hit from the first album.
it blends great hooks with smooth melodies to create familiar,
yet unique songs.
There's good storytelling on both albums, with pop structure and
great musicianship throughout. Give 'em a listen.
