Many of the musicians who are featured on HounddogRadio.net or perform on one of our shows are up-and-coming independent artists. To get to the heart of their music, Hounddog Productions often records interviews with the artists and publishes them for use on HounddogRadio.net and/or by the artists themselves. We've recently started archiving some of our interviews and special shows here. If you missed any of these or just want to hear 'em again, we've gotcha covered. The wonderful Julie Gribble and drummer Sean Bennett came by the Doghouse on Wednesday, June 25 to talk about all sorts of things, including Julie's music, life on the road, and other fun stuff. This young lady already has quite an impressive resume to go along with her music, and we were honored to have her stop by to hang out with us for an evening. We're currently spinning many of the tracks from Julie's 2006 album, Echoes in my Head, and we can't wait to hear what new music she's been putting together. Julie's credits include the Lifetime movie “Dive at Clauson’s Pier,” popular Nickelodeon shows “Zoey 101,” “Drake and Josh” and their TV movie “Drake & Josh Go to Hollywood,” as well as "South of Nowhere" on Noggin and "Smallville" on the CW network. Guest appearances include: "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" (2005 and 2007), “The Tyra Banks Show” (CBS), Good Day Atlanta (FOX), Daytime (NBC), Low Country Live (ABC), TV Guide Channel, and Cafe Central (CABLETV). Julie also received the 2005 LA Music Award for Best Adult Alternative Artist, has been featured in Music Connection Magazine’s Hot 100 unsigned bands (for both 2006 and 2007) and was also named one of the "Best Emerging Artists of 2006" in American Idol Magazine. Whoa.

Len Rosen & the Tribe of Good Fortune
June 04, 2008

We had yet another fun-filled time in the Doghouse on Wednesday, June 4, as Len Rosen and Richie Mays of Len Rosen & the Tribe of Good Fortune came by for some great music and fun conversation. Eric Jefferson was back in the host's chair for this one, as Len and Richie treated us to some cuts from their fantastic debut CD, Always Tomorrow, and played a few tunes for us live as well. The guys also gave Frank an impromptu rendition of one of his favorite songs, Len's "Mr. Television." All in all, it was quite a fun evening.

Len Rosen & the Tribe of Good Fortune were also part of the lineup for our Birthday Bash on June 8, and we were glad to have 'em. They're a terrific live band with a truly unique sound. Len & the Tribe go by the motto: "we make music the old-fashioned way... we PLAY it!" They do that, and do it well. You can take a listen to it riiiiiiight here.

We were fortunate enough to have acclaimed blues artist Joe Pitts join us in Georgia on the way back to his home state of Arkansas. Joe is a powerful, soulful & multi-talented performer who has been compared to guitarists like Warren Haynes, Michael Burks, Larry McCray, Walter Trout and Joe Bonamassa. Although his influences range from Duane Allman and Dickey Betts to Roy Buchanan, Joe is best known for his slide guitar work with the band Liquid Groove Mojo. Touted as one of Arkansas' best bands, the International touring band has played hundreds of shows, touring Europe and the Midwest/Midsouth. Joe has been widely recongized for his vocals as well, having been chosen as one of the best vocalists of the year at the 2006 Indie Artist Radio awards. Sweet!

Joe came by to talk with Frank "the Hounddog" about touring, Joe's music, and all sorts of other interesting stuff. We hope to have Joe back in the Doghouse again soon.

On Tuesday, November 6, 2007, Steve Coffey of the Rockin’ Pontoons came by the Gumbo Show with Joe. Steve and the Pontoons have accumulated an impressive following around the Atlanta area and we've been fans ever since we first heard "Hank" (which is also the first song heard during the interview below).

Critics have raved about the Pontoons’ debut album, Faith in a Happy Ending, and we’d go right along with them. Performing Songwriter magazine even selected it as a “Top-12 DIY” national pick! Steve is a very funny and entertaining guy, and we enjoyed hearing some of his hilarious stories as well as his fine music.

Athens' sensation Eric Dodd came down to hang out with us on November 5, 2007. Eric and his band mates (Tom DuPree and Bill Peters) just released their first album, Heal, and…well…we dug it right from the start. We enjoy the music even more now after meeting the guy in person and getting to hear a few of the tunes performed live.

Eric's southern, soul-filled stories of breakups, heartache, re-kindling of relationships, freedom, and – finally – hope fill the album. We were happy to have him come by to talk about it with Ashley and Frank on Monday Night Mayhem. This talented young man is impressive. Check him out.

Andrew Black

One of our favorite local performers, the amazing Andrew Black, visited The Gumbo Show with Joe on October 30, 2007, and we enjoyed his visit quite a bit. Andrew is quite a well-known figure in the Atlanta music scene and has toured all over the U.S., both as a solo act and with his band. His music encompasses many styles and genres such as: blues, jazz, southern rock and country. If you think that sounds like an ideal artist for Hounddog Radio, you would be 100% correct.

Joe and Frank talked to Andrew about his brand-new CD, 14th and Crescent, which we're really enjoying. This guy is truly amazing, and we were delighted to have him here. Catch his show in person if ya can. If you can't, we have the next best thing right here.

We had one hell of a party in the Doghouse on Sunday, October 28, 2007, as Paul Keen and Justin Monteleone of Pawnshop Roses traveled down from Philadelphia, PA to perform for us. The music was rockin', the beer was flowin', and everyone was having a great, great time. These guys write some terrific songs and entertained us throughout out the evening.

Pawnshop Roses have been putting together quite a résumé over the past few years, with outstanding accomplishments such as winning the 2006 YouTube Underground Video contest for Best Live Video! As a result, the band appeared on ABC's Good Morning America and has been featured in Time Magazine! The guys have also performed on several regional NBC, ABC, and CBS morning shows. We don't read much and we're certainly not up all that early in the morning (unless we have to go to court or something), but all that sounds mighty impressive to us and well-deserved. We were honored to have them with us.
